As well as having a full and exciting astrological practice, making political, military and strategic predictions for Italian princes, Bonatti's fame rests on his authorship of the Liber Astronomiae, the "Book of Astronomy" an encyclopedic account of the basics of all traditional astrology, plus horary, electional, natal and weather astrology. Bonatti drew heavily on earlier Arabic astrologers as well as his own astrological experience.

The 17th Century English astrologers made considerable use of it, in particular William Lilly's Christian Astrology draws heavily on the Bonatti's "Book of Astronomy" particularly with regard to marriage and legal questions.
