The "Yijing" (I Ching) or "Book of Changes" was originally a manual of divination that gradually, over time became the repository of all a practical philosophy to face the vicissitudes of life. The long period during which its development takes place, beginning at about the ninth century BC, we must add a whole huge tradition of glosses and commentaries that have been added over the centuries by many different authors, reaching to this day, which makes it the most influential text in China for the last three thousand years, not to mention the great echo that has had on Western culture.
This edition is the first complete direct translation from Chinese into Spanish. To carry it out, translators, deeply familiar with the Chinese language and culture, have taken into account recent linguistic and archaeological findings gathered by experts in the last fifty years, and a detailed comparative study of the text with other works of the same time. But also, for the first time, are added to the aphorisms of the sixty-four figures and the Ten Wings, the famous comments of Wang Bi (226-249), one of the most important Chinese thinkers of all time. Wang Bi was a Taoist, legalist and Confucian philosopher who despite dying prematurely at twenty-three, with his glosses exerted a huge influence for more than seven centuries. Then they would be replaced by Confucian official versions, to stay later forgotten for ten centuries. The rescue of his eclectic vision of the "Yijing" returns this great classic from China to its authentic and original sources.
