Without the slightest doubt, the text of The Eight precepts is one of the most fundamental works of the whole Dzogchen tradition.  It is thus no wonder that it was classified under the secret division of the Zhangzhung Nyengyu texts.  The teachings disclosed in its contents are certainly complex, and demand a subtle approach in order to uncover their real meaning.  They may also sometimes appear repetitive and redundant, but they actually convey many instructions and clarification which are difficult to find elsewhere.  Patient and careful study of each individual chapter will undoubtedly unfold a new understanding and a deepeing of the knowledge of the natural state.  In fact, this is a work containing the sum of all Dzogchen teachings presented in a symbolic form whose secrets are disclosed within its eight chapters.  In some ways, it contains the core of the Initiation to the Dynamism of Awareness in that it reveals the actual contents of this initiation in very direct terms.  Therefore, to ensure proper understanding, each chapter should be carefully studied before proceeding to the next one.

Robert Lanza & Bob Berman - Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe (2009) [1 eBook - PDF] (Everything Else)

Published by  BenBella Books inc.
ISBN: 978-1933771-69-4

The Introduction to the book

Quote:

Our understanding of the universe as a whole has reached a dead end. The “meaning” of quantum physics has been debated since it was first discovered in the 1930s, but we are no closer to understanding it now than we were then. The “theory of everything” that was promised for decades to be just around the corner has been stuck for decades in the abstract mathematics of string theory, with its unproven and unprovable assertions.

But it’s worse than that. Until recently, we thought we knew what the universe was made of, but it now turns out that 96 percent of the universe is composed of dark matter and dark energy, and we have virtually no idea what they are. We’ve accepted the Big Bang, despite the increasingly greater need to jury-rig it to fit our observations (as in the 1979 acceptance of a period of exponential growth, known as inflation, for which the physics is basically unknown). It even turns out that the Big Bang has no answer for one of the greatest mysteries in the universe: why is the universe exquisitely fine-tuned to support life?

Our understanding of the fundamentals of the universe is actually retreating before our eyes. The more data we gather, the more we’ve had to juggle our theories or ignore findings that simply make no sense.

This book proposes a new perspective: that our current theories of the physical world don’t work, and can never be made to work, until they account for life and consciousness. This book proposes that, rather than a belated and minor outcome after billions of years of lifeless physical processes, life and consciousness are absolutely fundamental to our understanding of the universe. We call this new perspective biocentrism.

In this view, life is not an accidental by-product of the laws of physics. Nor is the nature or history of the universe the dreary play of billiard balls that we’ve been taught since grade school.

Through the eyes of a biologist and an astronomer, we will unlock the cages in which Western science has unwittingly managed to confine itself. The twenty-first century is predicted to be the century of biology, a shift from the previous century dominated by physics. It seems fitting, then, to begin the century by turning the universe outside-in and unifying the foundations of science, not with imaginary strings that occupy equally imaginary unseen dimensions, but with a much simpler idea that is rife with so many shocking new perspectives that we are unlikely ever to see reality the same way again.

Biocentrism may seem like a radical departure from our current understanding, and it is, but the hints have appeared all around us for decades. Some of the conclusions of biocentrism may resonate with aspects of Eastern religions or certain New Age philosophies. This is intriguing, but rest assured there is nothing New Age about this book. The conclusions of biocentrism are based on mainstream science, and it is a logical extension of the work of some of our greatest scientific minds.

Biocentrism cements the groundwork for new lines of investigation in physics and cosmology. This book will lay out the principles of biocentrism, all of which are built on established science, and all of which demand a rethinking of our current theories of the physical universe.

Dzogpachenpo Zhang Zhung Nyen Gyü
The Twenty-One Seals
Zerbu Nyishu
(gzer bu nyi shu)
Oral Commentary by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

The following teachings are based on one of the most important texts from the cycle of the Oral Dzogchen Transmission from the Ancient Country of Zhang Zhung, the Dzogpachenpo Zhang Zhung Nyen Gyü (rDzogs pa chen po zhang zhung snyan rgyud). It is called the Commentary to the Twenty-One Seals (gZer
bunyer gcig gi grel pa), said to be composed by Gyerpung Nangzher Löpo (gyer spungs snang bzher lod po) in the VIII. century in Zhang Zhung. This texts comments on the scripture of the Twenty-One Seals (gZer bu nyi shu rtsa gcig gi gzhung), which were orally transmitted by the luminous emanation of Tapihritsa (Ta pi hri tsa) to Nangzher Löpo. These texts are found in one of the two collections of this tradition, the Four Cycles of the Transmission of Precepts, Dzogpachenpo Zhang Zhung Nyen Gyü Kagyü Korzhi (rDzogs pa chen po zhang zhung snyan rgyud bka´rgyud skor bzhi) and belong to its fourths category of the Supremely Secret Cycle (yang gsang skor/yang gsang gnas lugs phugs chod). These instructions are concerned with the realization of the fruit of the Dzogchen Practices of the Clear Light (´od gsal). 164 pages

Main Dzogchen Practices: From the Oral Transmission of the Great Perfection in Zhang Zhung

The first part of the text focuses on the direct introduction to the mind and the calm abiding with the well-known methods of fixation on the white A and the special Dzogchen preliminary practices of Rushen for searching the mind. The essential point of investigation includes the fixation on the white A and the Rushen, as well as the study of texts and teachings on the Dzogchen view. Thus it is not only a reflection on the mind and the nature of mind, but rather than following our thoughts and our consciousness we trace them back to their origin and discover their nature which is empty. Yet, at the same time, it is perfected with all qualities and manifestations. These aspects are explained as empty and appearing as vision in the practice of Trekcho and Thogal. For discovering this natural state beyond thoughts, mind, and consciousness, we need to discover our inherent presence or self-awareness. Self-awareness of the natural state of the fundamental basis of all is introduced in the first part of the text while the second part concentrates on the stability of this nature in our experiences through the practice of abiding. The special method used here is the practice of the dark retreat to reach the ultimate state of calm abiding.

A seminal text for the Gelug lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, this book clearly and powerfully presents the stages of the path to enlightenment (lamrim). Based on a teaching given by Pabongka Rinpoche in 1921 that was recorded by Trijang Rinpoche, a tutor of the current Dalai Lama, Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand is an entertaining, colloquial-style text that uses teaching stories to make its points. A fundamental resource in classes at Buddhist centers, this timeless book appears here in a greatly improved translation. QO0tcg

Tom Bisio - Nei Gong: The Authentic Classic: A Translation of the Nei Gong Zhen Chuan

Connected with the Tom Bisio's Books of Internal Practices GB: http://theoccult.bz/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=...

This is an obscure text of unknown origin, yet it stands alone as the definitive text on internal energy and the generation of internal power.
Hand copied, and passed from teacher to student, it is one of the "secret transmissions" of Chinese martial arts.
Nei Gong: The Authentic Classic, is a practical manual on internal energy development and its fundamental importance in the martial arts and fa jin (emitting force). It draws heavily on Daoist meditation and alchemical practices which are said to promote health and longevity.

The text is divided into four sections:

1. Nei Gong Jing (Internal Energy Classic);
2. Na Gua Jing (Received Trigram Classic);
3. Shen Yun Jing (Transported Spirit Classic);
4. Di Long Jing (Earth Dragon Classic), which are meant to be read in order.

In this way the reader is guided step by step through the details of Nei Gong practice, and in the Di Long Jing, its application to self-defense.
Translated by a team of experts, the text is accompanied by extensive footnotes and diagrams that clarify the more obscure passages which otherwise pre-suppose a knowledge of Daoist texts and imagery from the I-Ching (Book of Changes).
The appendices further explicate the relationship of Nei Gong: The Authentic Classic to the internal martial art Xing Yi Quan.

Secret Revelations of Chittamani Tara is a commentary to the practice of both the generation and completion stages of the highest yoga tantra deity Chittamani Tara composed by Pabongkha Dechen Nyingpo. It is based on teachings that Gargyi Wangpo Takphu Dorje Chang received directly from Tara, and contains many profound oral instructions that are not easily found elsewhere. In addition to all the teachings unique to Chittamani Tara, Pabongkha Rinpoche has supplemented it with teachings from the Gaden Hearing Lineage as well as the general tantric teachings of the Gelug tradition. The completion stage section makes up nearly thirty percent of the commentary and is one of the most profound and practical discourses on the completion stage to be found anywhere in English translation.

Also included are the Chittamani Tara self generation sadhana, the ganachakra offering for Chittamani Tara, and three beautiful and moving praises and prayers to Tara composed by masters in the tradition.

The material in this book is restricted. This book may be read only by those who have received an empowerment into any of the four classes of tantra. In order to practice this material, you must have received both the common and uncommon Chittamani Tara empowerments.

The Ecstatic Dance of Chakrasamvara is a translation of oral teachings on the generation and completion stages of the Heruka Body Mandala in the lineage of Mahasiddha Ghantapa. The commentary was given by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche Losang Yeshe, who was the junior tutor to His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, in Dharamsala, India in 1973. This teaching was based on Changkya Rolpai Dorje’s and Dakpo Kelsang Kädrup’s commentaries on the generation stage as well as the Panchen Lama Chökyi Gyaltsen’s and Dakpo Kelsang Kädrup’s commentaries on the completion stage, combined with the notes on Kyabje Pabongkha Nyingpo’s teaching on the generation stage that Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang himself compiled. The teachings were recorded and, at the request of Ribur Rinpoche, painstakingly transcribed by Gen Lobsang Choephel, and were subsequently translated into English by David Gonsalez. This profound text brings together various rare scriptural sources with the oral lineage handed down through a succession of enlightened beings. Many of the texts that Trijang Rinpoche taught from are sealed-in-secrecy texts, making the contents of this book even more rare and valuable. Many of the instructions presented in this book have been carefully maintained as an oral lineage that must be learned from one’s own guru, resulting in a wellspring of profound instructions on both Chakrasamvara in particular and highest yoga tantra in general. The teachings within this book are the very pinnacle of the most profound teachings available in the Vajrayana tradition. This book also contains a new translation of the Heruka Body Mandala sadhana to facilitate a greater understanding of the commentary, and which can also serve as a ritual text when undertaking the practice.  Trijang Rinpoche (1900–1981) was the foremost disciple of Pabongkha Rinpoche (1878–1941) and the junior tutor to the current Dalai Lama, as well as the main teacher of the vast majority of practitioners within the Gelug tradition alive in his day. His influence was such that nearly every Gelugpa practitioner alive in his time as well as today has in some way benefited from the great accomplishments of this sublime being. QO0tcg

Practicing Gnosis: Ritual, Magic, Theurgy and Liturgy in Nag Hammadi, Manichaean and Other Ancient Literature. Essays in Honor of Birger A. Pearson

Edited by  April Deconick, Gregory Shaw, John D. Turner

Ritual, magic, liturgy, and theurgy were central features of Gnosticism, and yet Gnostic practices remain understudied. This anthology is meant to fill in this gap and address more fully what the ancient Gnostics were doing. While previously we have studied the Gnostics as intellectuals in pursuit of metaphysical knowledge, the essays in this book attempt to understand the Gnostics as ecstatics striving after religious experience, as prophets seeking revelation, as mystics questing after the ultimate God, as healers attempting to care for the sick and diseased. These essays demonstrate that the Gnostics were not necessarily trendy intellectuals seeking epistomological certainities. They were after religious experiences that relied on practices. The book is organized comparatively in a history-of-religions approach with sections devoted to Initiatory, Recurrent, Therapeutic, Ecstatic, and Philosophic Practices. This book celebrates the brilliant career of Birger A. Pearson.
